College Admissions: Columbia, Carnegie Mellon, UPenn, Duke and UMich and AP Calculus BC
Sam started working with my daughter Elizabeth on her AP Calc BC exam. She has a history of struggling with math exams specifically, but after working on her technique with Sam, she scored a 5 (top mark). He provided her with a lot of solid strategies and made sure she was calm, confident and well prepared for all sorts of questions. We then worked with Sam again in the summer between Elizabeth's junior and senior year. He first helped her again with strategies for the SAT, as Elizabeth was stuck with 1320. After only a few sessions, she was able to raise her score up to a 1530 which changed the game for Elizabeth's college application process entirely, as she was much more confident in applying to a wider range of schools. Sam developed a plan of action to apply to some more schools, and worked long hours with Elizabeth to make sure her essays and supplementals were strong and focused! She would send drafts to him late in the afternoon and he'd give her detailed feedback and critique usually within an hour or so. He is very efficient! Elizabeth got into many of her top choices including Penn, Duke, UMichigan, Carnegie Mellon and Columbia. Sam is an excellent math tutor and admissions coach! -Jason
College Admissions: Cornell (Early Decision)
Mitch's help with my college applications was really great! He took a deep look at all materials, and fine combed through everything, highlighting personal bits of information that I had initially skimmed over which really helped me craft a narrative, instead of just elaborating on my resume. He clearly has a deep understanding of what admissions committees are looking for was incredibly supportive in his feedback. I got into Cornell for my ED! Thank you again, Mitch! -Anon.
NACLO
I had attempted NACLO twice, but never got the invitation to the second round. Mitch then helped me and in every lesson, he found fun ways to teach me new topics ranging from phonology to pragmatics. We also did a lot of problem sets that he specifically designed to help me with the areas he saw I was struggling with. This all really helped me, and I qualified for the second round of NACLO for the first time! Can't wait to keep getting coached by him. -Anon.
USACO

College Admissions: Cornell (Early Decision)
Sam completely changed Alex's college planning strategy, who was not being advised well by his school's college counselor. Meeting only for a total of six sessions, Sam took the time, and advised my son to apply for physics in the Arts & Sciences college of Cornell University, opposed to applied physics in the Engineering college, due to his grander interests and current coursework. Sam helped tremendously with finding the common themes across his essays. Sam would consistently review every draft my son would send to him, making sure the common app essay and each supplemental essay built upon Ethan's narrative, adding something new and innovative. His feedback was astute! My son got an interview quickly after applying with an alum, for which Sam coached him. I'll add that as Sam is an alum of Cornell he was able to give Alex some excellent insight for both his essays and for questions to ask the interviewer. Alex got accepted into Cornell University for the College of Arts and Sciences through Early Decision! If you want a stress free college application process, I'd highly suggest working with Sam. We truly are so grateful for Sam's help and extra efforts! -Tamara

AI, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing and Reinforcement Learning Tutoring
Over the last few months Sam has been tutoring me for my machine learning and natural language processing course. He designed a syllabus for me that augmented my university course. His way of teaching addressed all the questions I wanted to have answered, and went into great depth surrounding both the prerequisite topics which I was missing. Sam broke down complex topics surrounding word vectors (embeddings, contextual, skip gram, etc), the inner workings of neural networks (ranging from simple feedforward all the way to complex Transformer and GPT models) and topics in reinforcement learning. Working through drills and sample problems, Sam gave me the overall picture and also the step-by-step math and coding needed (which NLP/ML textbooks and university classes skim over) to ensure that I understood the differences in each model/framework and how to use them across different ML/NLP tasks. If you are looking for a tutor who can help across natural language processing, machine learning, reinforcement learning and/or general topics in AI - I would highly recommend you contact Sam! -Walter
